What Can Drones Do For You?

On March 3rd, 2020, representatives from the San Diego Industrial Drone Consortium (SDIDC) gave an exciting presentation about the drone industry at the South County Economic Development Council Board Members Meeting.

Segmented for 3 presenters, Darryl Anunciado from Action Drone opened with the benefits of integrating drone training for public and private industries. These integrations also included mapping & surveillance for first responder & natural disaster assessments, city planning, and conducting partnerships with university school research and developments.

Dave Twinning from Planck Aero spoke on the innovation advancements of drone software, automation, and swarm systems that enable military and research capabilities to capture data effectively from moving platforms.

In closing, David Tinder from Birds Eye Aerial Drones discussed about infrastructure and utility inspection for wind turbine farms, electric poles and grids, solar panels, and bridges. Inevitably, marketing imagery is always beneficial in company promotions, investor and city-wide stakeholder reviews, as well as fund-raising benefits for non-profit organizations.

The SDIDC is facilitated by the South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC). For more information, please contact us.

Unmanned Systems Workforce Report

Unmanned Systems Workforce Report

In 2016, the City of San Diego received grant funding through the Community Economic Adjustment Assistance for Reductions in Defense Industry Employment funds provided by the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment.  To assist the defense community and maximize the grant, the Propel San Diego Initiative was created and is a partnership between South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC), East County Economic Development Council, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, City of San Diego, San Diego Military Advisory Council and San Diego Workforce Partnership.  The goal of Propel San Diego is to make the local defense sector more resilient to the ebb and flow of defense contracting.

In support of this effort, SCEDC is working to identify immediate workforce needs in the field of unmanned systems (aerial, underwater, land and surface). The goal is to understand the needs and create curriculum which can be used to prepare a workforce that possess the skills needed to immediately enter the field of unmanned systems. Local companies in this field were surveyed to identify workforce needs.

This project is funded in whole or in part with Community Economic Adjustment Assistance for Reductions in Defense Industry Employment funds provided by the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment to the City of San Diego. The Propel San Diego Initiative is a partnership between South County EDC, East County EDC, San Diego Regional EDC, City of San Diego, SDMAC & San Diego Workforce Partnership

Miramar Airshow

Members from SDIDC and SCEDC had the privilege to talk with the public at San Diegos annual Miramar Airshow on September 28-30, 2018. SDIDC representatives from the group were from Birds Eye Aerial Drones, Empower UAVNeoDesign Partners, South County Economic Development Council, and Straight Up Imaging. Miramar has a long history as a part of San Diego County and this year they honored the 100 years of women in the U.S. Marine Corps (1918-2018). Propel San Diego Initiative:
The Propel San Diego Initiative is a partnership between South County EDC, East County EDC, San Diego Regional EDC, City of San Diego, San Diego Military Advisory Council and San Diego Workforce Partnership, funded by the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA). The goal of this effort is to create a resilient defense supply chain in San Diego by diversifying defense companies. One of SCEDCs specific projects under this effort is to create more awareness for unmanned systems in San Diego, promote unmanned systems infrastructure and prepare our workforce with related skills.

To maximize our efforts under Propel San Diego, SCEDC began managing the San Diego Industrial Drone Consortium (SDIDC) in April 2018. Together, SCEDC and SDIDC are committed to furthering drone efforts and infrastructure in the San Diego region and creating an environment which provides resiliency and competitiveness for unmanned systems companies who conduct defense work.

As the drone industry continues to grow, drones have become a tool that have applications in a variety of industries. Members of the SDIDC consist of local drone companies in San Diego County who have established a consortium to promote the growth of the drone industry in the region. One of SDIDC’s goals is to increase awareness and develop cross-industry partnerships in an effort to enhance the connectivity of drones into other industries.SDIDC is conducting educational presentations to various industry organizations through panels of member drone companies who possess a variety of expertise in the field. If your organization is interested in scheduling a presentation, please contact us: https://sdindustrialdrone.com/become-a-member/.
