Miramar Airshow

Members from SDIDC and SCEDC had the privilege to talk with the public at San Diego’s annual Miramar Airshow on September 28-30, 2018. SDIDC representatives from the group were from Birds Eye Aerial Drones, Empower UAV, NeoDesign Partners, South County Economic Development Council, and Straight Up Imaging. Miramar has a long history as a part of San Diego County and this year they honored the 100 years of women in the U.S. Marine Corps (1918-2018). Propel San Diego Initiative:
The Propel San Diego Initiative is a partnership between South County EDC, East County EDC, San Diego Regional EDC, City of San Diego, San Diego Military Advisory Council and San Diego Workforce Partnership, funded by the Department of Defense (DoD), Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA). The goal of this effort is to create a resilient defense supply chain in San Diego by diversifying defense companies. One of SCEDC’s specific projects under this effort is to create more awareness for unmanned systems in San Diego, promote unmanned systems infrastructure and prepare our workforce with related skills.

To maximize our efforts under Propel San Diego, SCEDC began managing the San Diego Industrial Drone Consortium (SDIDC) in April 2018. Together, SCEDC and SDIDC are committed to furthering drone efforts and infrastructure in the San Diego region and creating an environment which provides resiliency and competitiveness for unmanned systems companies who conduct defense work.

As the drone industry continues to grow, drones have become a tool that have applications in a variety of industries. Members of the SDIDC consist of local drone companies in San Diego County who have established a consortium to promote the growth of the drone industry in the region. One of SDIDC’s goals is to increase awareness and develop cross-industry partnerships in an effort to enhance the connectivity of drones into other industries.SDIDC is conducting educational presentations to various industry organizations through panels of member drone companies who possess a variety of expertise in the field.
